Salal Sexual Violence Support Centre Short Logo Animation
Focus: Graphic Design/ Animation
What is Salal?
Founded 40 years ago, Salal Sexual Violence Support Centre is the largest sexual assault centre in British Columbia, operating on the stolen and unceded Coast Salish Territories of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), and Sel̓íl̓witulh (Tsleil-Waututh) peoples. Salal provides free-of-charge support services to women, trans, Two-Spirit, nonbinary, and gender diverse survivors of sexualized violence. Gender-based violence is systemic, and our work goes beyond service provision to include advocating for, and enacting change within our society to create safer communities.
How Did The Project Start?
My former colleague and friend, Trina Prince, reached out to me while Salal, formerly known as WAVAW (Women Against Violence Against Women), was in the midst of rebranding. They were looking for a short animation to visually transition from the organization’s old identity to their new one. The goal was to highlight three key elements:
The organization’s decades of accomplishments
Their 40th anniversary milestone
The vibrant new colours of the Salal logo
* the different colours of Salal’s logo is meant to showcase their core services: 24-hour crisis & information line, sexual violence support, as well as hospital, police, and support groups.
What was the Final Product?
The final 36-second animation was created for Salal’s social media channels and featured as a backdrop during their announcement event on April 1, 2023.
The video has since attracted over 100 interactions and remains pinned on their Instagram as a key piece of visual storytelling.
